Niamh Parsons & Graham Dunne Keepers of the flame in Irish song “There are some voices which just stay with you for good. They do not only appeal to your heart but they also take you away to mystical places. Niamh Parsons has such a special voice.” This is a quote from a folk lexicon and we think it nails it. Another journalist described Niamh’s voice as a full blooded Spanish Rioja, a deep rich wine, full of character, with a hint of iron behind a complex blend of experience and flavours. This is a voice which will warm your heart and make your head spin. Connoisseurs of traditional singing will recognise her roots and quality intimately. Once Niamh discovers a song she likes, she views herself as the vehicle for the music. "For me the song is more important than listening to my voice," she says. "I consider myself more a songstress than a singer - a carrier of tradition." The same applies for her guitarist Graham Dunne, who is determined to make his accompaniment a perfect platform as much for the singer as the song. With every tone this duo creates a fresh breeze which makes the flame embedded in the Irish Folk song burn brighter. They are the real keepers of the flame. This is evident through all the tracks on this compilation album. In addition to that Graham got the opportunity to display his outstanding instrumental skills by delivering a superb set of jigs. Throughout their career, Niamh and Graham have performed with a wide variety of leading artists, appeared at nearly every prestigious folk festival on either side of the Atlantic and have been honoured with numerous awards dedicated to Celtic music.
